BCS stands for the 'British Computer Society', which is also referred to as the 'The Chartered Institute for IT'. The society/institute has been created to cater for IT professionals who live in the UK and abroad. As of 2013, the BCS is based in North Star House, North Star Avenue, Swindon. IT professional can become a member of the BCS, but in order to do so, they will need to meet a set of professional standards outlined in the BCS's 'code of conduct'. The current levels of membership are as follows (2013):

  1. Affiliate
  2. Student
  3. Associate
  4. Professional
  5. Chartered IT Professional
  6. Fellowship
