What is Bandwidth

Bandwidth is a term - in relation to computer networking - which refers to the amount of available/consumed data. Bandwidth is measured in 'bits' and 'bytes'. For Internet users, the most likely situation that they will come across the term: is in relation to their Internet Service Provider. Internet Service Providers provide access to the Internet, but, they charge a fee for that access. While users can pay for "unlimited" access, most users will pay for a specific amount of bandwidth per month. This means that a user will be restricted to downloading 'x' amount of data per month, and this is referred to as a 'bandwidth limit'.
